The BioCellus Summer School took place from the 4th to the 8th of September 2007 in Seggau Castle, near Graz in Austria. 37 participants joined the seminar and came from all over Europe (Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, and Switzerland). Three participants even afforded the trip from the very far Brazil! University and research centres were mainly represented. During four intensive days, specific information was given on biomass gasification, gas cleaning technologies, and fuel cell systems, starting from the basics and going to the details and problems of the combination of solid oxide fuel cells with biomass gasification. Most of the topics covered are currently the focus of different projects. The participants enjoyed some very lively lectures and could exchange with biomass and fuel cell specialists. The third day was characterized by the active participation of the attendees themselves, who were dispatched according to their interest in four different discussion workshops on carbon formation and innovative materials, gasification and system integration, gas analysis and cleaning technologies, and modelling of SOFCs. The results of these discussion forums were presented on the last day to the rest of the assembly. The workshops were characterized by passionate discussions and in-depth contributions. The excursion to the successful Güssing gasifier was appreciated despite some communication difficulties The subsequent visit of the city of Graz was a colourful and delightful trip through Austrian history. A wine tasting party and a visit of the castle hosting the seminar completed the social programme. Without doubt, all participants are now fans of biomass gasification, fuel cells, and Styrian wines! Thank you very much to all participants and lecturers! |
